LUBBOCK, Texas (March 13, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fought No. 1 Lubbock Christian University in a scoring frenzy on Saturday afternoon coming out on top with a 24-14 victory over the Chaparrals.
The Eagles opened up the first inning with five scores to take to an early lead and never gave it up.
Dillon Andrews was the first batter to take home after Parcus doubled. Parcus followed with the next run after Heath Steele hit a double. Steele and Dustin Andrews picked up two more scores on an error before Tyler Gipson brought home the final score of the inning on another error by the Chaps.
The LCU men countered with two runs in the bottom of the first and second innings with OC scoring two more in the second themselves to leave the Eagles ahead 7-4 heading into the third. Parcus and Dustin Andrews each picked up a run apiece in the second off Quaid Johns and Gipson hits.
The Eagles took flight in the third inning tallying eight runs to take to a15-4 lead over the Chaps holding them scoreless for the inning. Scores were seen from Dillon Andrews, Parcus, Dustin Andrews, Jordan Price, Gipson, Johns, Jay White, and Chance Nichols. Jeff Davis sent in two runners on a triple before White pinch ran in his place.
The Eagles put up one run to LCU's three in the fourth inning before scoring six runs to LCU's five in the fifth. Dustin Andrews scored the Eagles' lone run in the fourth on a single from Gipson.
The fifth inning started out well for the Eagles as Nichols and Dillon Andrews connected on back-to-back triples sending Nichols home for the first score. Dillon Andrews headed home on a single from Parcus before Parcus scored on a Dustin Andrews single. Dustin Andrews scored when Heath Steele doubled. Davis added two more RBIs with a single to left field that sent home Steele and Johns.
Heading into the sixth inning, the Eagles led by 10 runs at 22-12 and were unable to score any additional runs while LCU added two more. The Eagles finished out the game scoring two more in the seventh and holding the Chaps from any more scores.
Davis tallied yet another RBI to send in Johns and White grabbed an RBI with a ground out that sent home Steele.
Parcus led the Eagles at the plate hitting 100 percent going four for four with four runs and three RBIs. Gipson went four for six with two runs and three RBIs while Jeff Davis went three for five with five RBIs.
Dustin Andrews grabbed the win for the Eagles on the mound pitching 4.2 innings and tallying five earned runs.
With the 24-14 victory, the Eagles went 2-1 against No. 1 LCU and own a 10-7 season record and 6-3 conference record.
The Eagles will return to Texas to play the University of Texas-Arlington on Tuesday and Wednesday. The games start at 6:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
