Eagles drop No. 11 Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. (April 5, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team overpowered No. 11 Rogers State University (Okla.) on the road on Tuesday as they captured the series winning the double header games 6-4 and 9-0.

Game 1

Rogers State gained the first lead in game one with a run in the second to lead 1-0 going into the third. The Eagles responded in the following inning with three runs of their own to up the Hillcats 3-1.

Caleb Price starting the inning off for the Eagles with a home run to get OC on the board. Two batters later, Dillon Andrews blasted a triple to right field before he was later sent home on a single from Clint Bowker. Dustin Andrews tallied the third score for the Eagles after heading home on a dropped fly by the Hillcats.

In the bottom of the third, the Hillcats responded with two additional runs to tie things up at 3-3 before heading into a scoreless fourth.

During the top of the fifth, the Eagles put together another three-run inning to jump to a 6-3 lead. After both Jordan Price and Dustin Andrews had got on base, Bowker took the plate only to blast a three-run homer over the fence to put the Eagles up by three.

The Hillcats responded with a single run in the sixth, but the Eagles held firm defensively to seal the win at 6-4.

At the plate, Bowker led the Eagles going 3-for-4, tallying four RBI, and scoring a run. Will Reinke claimed the win from the mound pitching his way through five innings and throwing five strikeouts.

Game 2

In the second game against RSU, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first prior to a five in a half inning defensive standoff. Dillon Andrews made it home for the score on a single to left from Bowker.

Following the top of the first, the Eagles managed their way through the next five innings with the single run lead as the second through fifth innings came up scoreless for either team as a defensive standoff ensued.

Heading into the final inning with what seemed would be a 1-0 Eagle victory, the Eagles caught fire as the Hillcat defense collapsed and erratic pitching followed to result in an eight-run inning for OC.

With the bases loaded, a walk by Dillon Andrews forced Jeff Davis home for the score. Jordan Price followed suit to reach base on a walk as well and allow Caleb Price the score. Following a pitching change, Dustin Andrews took the plate only to be hit by the pitch, which in turn allowed Parcus home for another score. Two batters later, it was Dillon Andrews' turn to jog home on a walk by Josh Balch.

After scoring three runs on walks and one on a hit by pitch, it still wasn't over. Following Balch's at bat, Chance Nichols was walked as well to force home Jordan Price. Taking the plate for second time of the inning, Davis tallied the first hit in ages with a single to left to drive home Dustin Andrews. Following yet another pitching change, Caleb Price retook the plate to hit a single as well to send home Balch and Nichols for the scores.

When the end finally came to the Eagles' seventh, OC held back RSU's efforts to respond with three outs in four batters to claim the 9-0 shutout victory.

Dillon Andrews, Davis, and Caleb Price each went 2-for-4 with Price tallying two RBI. Bowker earned the win on the mound pitching through six innings and recording five strikeouts.

The wins bring the Eagles to 19-10 overall and to 11-7 for conference play. The OC baseball team will stay on the road for their next matchup as they take on Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Thursday with a single nine-inning game beginning at 3 p.m.
