PLAINVIEW, Texas (Mar. 11, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team split Friday's double header against Wayland Baptist University (Texas) as they lost the first game 10-2 and won the second 11-8.
Game 1
The first game of the double header proved to be an even match through the first five innings as both teams held the other from scoring until the third. The Eagles got on the board first with a run in the top of the inning by Chance Nichols off a Heath Steele double.
In the bottom of the inning, the Pioneers responded with a run of their own to tie things up at 1-1 heading into the fourth.
The following two innings came out scoreless before Wayland Baptist cranked out a nine-run inning in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead.
The Eagles responded with a single run in the final inning to suffer the 10-2 loss. Steele hit a single to record a second RBI as Josh Balch scored off the at bat.
Game 2
OC came out swinging in game two as the Eagles tallied six runs right off the bat in the first inning to take the early advantage.
Taylor Parcus was the first to round the bases after Dillon Andrews hit a single to drive him home. Andrews followed home next on a single from Dustin Andrews who scored himself two batters later on a walk from Caleb Price. Tyler Gipson earned the next score on a catcher's interference and was then followed by Steele when Balch was hit by pitch. Price registered the last run of the inning on a fielder's choice hit by Parcus.
The Pioneers responded with a single run in the each of the first two innings and with three more in the third to trail by one score at 6-5 heading into the fourth.
The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless before the Eagles blasted in four more runs in the sixth to push to a 10-5 lead before the last inning.
With the bases loaded, Dustin Andrews took the plate to connect on a double that sent Jordan Price, Dillon Andrews, and Balch in for a three-run play. Dustin Andrews headed home shortly thereafter on a WBU error.
In the bottom of the inning, the Pioneers managed to score three more runs. Despite such, the Eagles came back with a final run in the seventh to take the game 11-8. Balch blasted a first pitch homer for the score.
At the plate, Dustin Andrews went 3-for-4 with four RBi while Dillon Andrews helped out with 3-for-5 hitting.
Clint Bowker came away with the win for the Eagles after pitching through 5.1 innings and throwing three strikeouts.
The split brings the Eagles to 11-5 overall and to 4-2 for conference play. The OC baseball team will finish out their series against Wayland Baptist on Saturday with a single nine inning game beginning at 1 p.m.
