Eagles fall to Hillcats in run rule defeat

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Mar. 1, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team suffered a 15-4 run rule defeat against Rogers State University (Okla.) on Tuesday night at Dobson Field.

Rogers State was the first to score with a run in the first inning before the Eagles responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Third to bat, Jordan Price took to the plate with Dillon Andrews on first and blasted a home run over the left fence to put two runs on the board for the Eagles.

In the bottom of the second inning, Heath Steele followed suit to hit a two run homer as well sending in pinch runner Garrett Stephenson and putting the Eagles up 4-1 heading into the third.

The Hillcats tallied a score in the third to make the score 4-2, Eagles lead, heading into the fourth. In the top of the inning, the Hillcats tied things up with two more scores.

After a scoreless fifth, the RSU men advanced into the lead with three more runs in the sixth, all the while with the Eagles unable to respond.

With the Hillcats up 7-4 heading into the seventh, the RSU men put up eight runs off of six hits to tally a 15-4 lead. With the Eagles unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, the game ended in a run rule Hillcat victory.

Andrews led the Eagles at the play with 2-for-3 hitting while both Steele and Price went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The loss leaves the Eagles to an 8-3 season record and at 3-1 for conference play. The Eagles will next head to the road to play Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Saturday in a double header starting 2 p.m.
