Baseball takes split against No. 1 LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 12, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team won the first game of the doubleheader against No. 1 Lubbock Christian University 6-4 before falling in the second 10-3 on Friday.

Game 1

The Eagles started out the first inning with a run by Jordan Price after Zac Coshow singled up the middle to send Price in from second. Lubbock Christian responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it up at 1-1 heading into the second.

After two scoreless innings from the Eagles, the Chaparrals registered a score in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Eagles responded at the top of the fourth with two runs to take over the lead at 3-2 with scores from Heath Steele and Tyler Gipson. Steele was able to make it in off a single from Jeff Davis while Gipson went home on Justin Ebert's single to left field.

LCU gained one run in each of the next two innings to take back to a one-point lead. The Eagles tied the game at 4-4 with a run from Josh Balch, who pinch ran for Davis, after a single from Taylor Parcus.

The game headed into extra innings after no more scores were seen from either team until the Eagles pulled off two runs in the ninth to take the game 6-4. Steele scored on Gipson's triple before Gipson was batted in by Davis.

Kennedy Winn pitched eight innings and tallied 11 strikeouts only allowing three runs against the Eagles.

Davis led from the plate going two for four and tallying two RBIs. Gipson wasn't far behind as he went two for four with two runs and an RBI.

Game 2

Game two held close as neither team scored until OC put up the first with a run by Dillon Andrews in the third inning. Andrews scored off Price's single to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The fourth inning followed without any scores prior to the fifth inning when the LCU men drove in a whopping seven runs to take to a 7-1 lead. The Chaparrals added three more in the sixth to jump to a larger lead before the OC men closed out the game with two runs from Justin Ebert and Dillon Andrews.

Andrews led at the plate going two for three and scoring two runs.

The 10-3 loss leaves the Eagles at 9-7 overall and 5-3 for conference play.

The OC baseball team will rematch the Chaparrals in a final game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
