PLAINVIEW, Texas (Mar. 12, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team claimed their final series game against Wayland Baptist University (Texas) on Saturday winning 11-6 over the Pioneers.
The Eagles had no problem scoring on Saturday against the Pioneers, as OC tallied 17 hits during the nine-inning match.
OC hopped on the board first with two runs in the first for the early lead. Third to bat, Jordan Price hit a first pitch homer to send in Dillon Andrews from first for the two-run play.
After a scoreless second inning, the Eagles tallied another run in the third when Tyler Gipson hit a double to right field to send home Price for the score. The Pioneers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up at 3-3 heading into the fourth.
Over the next three innings, the Eagles scored a run in each while holding Wayland Baptist scoreless all the while. In the fourth, Andrews hit a singled to drive in Taylor Parcus from third base. Caleb Price tallied a RBI in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to send home Josh Balch. During the sixth inning, Dustin Andrews hit a double to left center field to send Dillon Andrews from first leaving the Eagles up 6-3 heading into the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, the Eagles further increased their lead with two more runs added by pinch runner Garrett Stephenson and Balch off a double from Dillon Andrews.
A no run eighth inning followed before the Eagles put up a final three runs in the ninth to gap the Pioneers by eight runs at 11-3. On the third at bat, Dustin Andrews powered another homer for the Eagles to also send in Dillon Andrews for two runs. Two batters later, Chance Nichols took the plate only to hit another home run to give the Eagles an eight-point advantage.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Pioneers recorded three scores to leave the final score at an 11-6 Eagle victory.
Dillon Andrews led the Eagles at the plate with 3-for-5 overall hitting, three RBI, and three runs scored. Price joined in with 2-for-4 and two RBI while Caleb price went 2-for-3 overall.
The Eagles improve to a 12-5 overall record and a 5-2 record for conference play. The OC baseball team will return home for their upcoming series against Lubbock Christian University (Texas) scheduled to begin on Thursday with a double header beginning at 3 p.m.
