LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 23, 2012) – No. 4 Lubbock Christian rallied from an early deficit to beat Oklahoma Christian 12-2 in seven innings on Saturday, completing a sweep of the three-game baseball series.
OC (3-4, 0-4 Sooner Athletic Conference) lost its fourth straight game after a 3-0 start. The Eagles led 2-0 through four innings on Saturday, thanks to RBI singles by Daniel Thompson and Garrett Stephenson that chased Lubbock Christian starter Mark Almaguer.
Lubbock Christian (10-5, 3-0) broke through against OC freshman right-hander Luke Sandoval (1-1) in the fifth, tying the game on a two-run home run by Richard Bohlken.
The Chaparrals scored three more runs in the sixth off Sandoval by taking advantage of three OC errors. Pinch-runner Jordan Hill scored on a throwing error by second baseman Evan Draper to put Lubbock Christian up 3-2 and Jordan Lewis followed with a two-run double.
Lubbock Christian poured it on with seven runs in the seventh, all with no outs. Karl Seiter hit a two-run home run off OC reliever Harrison Mendez and Reagan Pearson connected off reliever Heath Orndorff for a two-run double down the right-field line and Brent Leslie followed with a two-run single.
A third OC reliever, Jacob Stephenson, gave up a run-scoring single to Ryan Burnaman that ended the scheduled nine-inning game via the 10-run rule.
Lubbock Christian reliever Jose Gonzalez (1-0) allowed two hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. Lewis and Burnaman both went 3-for-5 for the Chaparrals.
Jerry Owen and Chris Miller each had two hits for the Eagles, who will visit No. 19-ranked Rogers State on Tuesday.
