Eagles outscore Mid-America on the diamond

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 25, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team claimed their first series game against Mid-American Christian University (Okla.) on Friday afternoon outscoring the Evangels 10-4.

The two squads played through four scoreless innings before the Eagles got on the board first with two runs in the top of the fifth. OC took the two run lead with a home run from Jeff Davis sending in pinch runner Caleb Price as well.

Mid-America responded with a run in the bottom of the inning before OC tacked on another run in the top of the sixth. Jordan Price made the score on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Gipson to leave the Eagles up 3-1 heading into the seventh.

The Eagles sent two more runners home in the seventh when Heath Steele hit a homer over the right fence and Taylor Parcus later scored via an error. In the bottom of the inning, the Evangels scored another single run to still leave OC ahead at 5-2.

In the top of the eighth, the Eagles pulled out of reach for the Evangels as they scored four runs. With both Dillon Andrews and Gipson on base, Davis sent another homer over the fence to score three runs for the Eagles. The fourth run came from Steele on a ground out from Parcus putting OC up 9-2 with just an inning left to play.

In the ninth, Jordan Price scored the final run for the Eagles with another home run to add to the mix. The Evangels responded in the bottom of the inning with two more runs, but the Eagle lead was too much as OC claimed the 10-4 victory.

Price and Davis led at the plate with 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 hitting, respectively, while Davis tallied five RBI and two runs in the process. Steele also contributed 2-for-4 hitting and recorded an RBI and scored two runs.

Ryan Morris pitched for the Eagles through seven innings to record nine strikeouts and allow just two earned runs.

The win brings the Eagles to 6-2 overall and starts them at 1-0 for the conference. OC will finish out the series against Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) at Dobson Field on Saturday with a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
