CLAREMORE, Okla. (Feb. 28, 2012) – Dillon Andrews went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, but Oklahoma Christian lost 11-5 on Tuesday to No. 19 Rogers State at American Legion Field.
OC (3-5, 0-5 Sooner Athletic Conference) dropped its fifth straight game, all against ranked conference foes – two against Rogers State (18-1, 5-0) and three against No. 4 Lubbock Christian (Texas).
Andrews singled and scored in the first and his two-run single in the second put the Eagles ahead 3-0. Rogers State got one run back in the bottom of the second and the Hillcats poured it on with a six-run third against OC pitchers Ryan Nash (0-2) and Heath Orndorff.
Emmanuel De La Cruz led off the inning for Rogers State with a solo home run and three batters later, Colton Campbell hit a two-run homer to put the Hillcats ahead 4-3. It looked like Orndorff might escape the inning without further damage, but a dropped fly ball by right fielder Daniel Thompson with two outs allowed three more runs to score.
Evan Draper singled and scored in the fourth to pull the Eagles within 7-4, but Rogers State scored two runs on an error by OC third baseman Jerry Owen in the bottom of the inning.
Rogers State starter Jacob Wenaas allowed three runs and five hits in three innings. The Hillcats used six other pitchers, each of whom pitched one inning. Zack Williams (2-0), who pitched the fourth inning for Rogers State, picked up the win.
Draper and Garrett Stephenson each went 2-for-3 for OC. Campbell led the Hillcats, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
The Eagles will return home for a three-game series against SAC opponent Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday and Saturday at Dobson Field.
