BETHANY, Okla. (March 25, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team grabbed a 10-7 victory over Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) on Thursday after scoring four runs in the ninth inning to overcome a 7-6 deficit.
Southern Nazarene got on the board early with two scores in the first to lead 2-0 for the first three innings. The Eagles tied the game up in the fourth inning with two scores of their own from Jordan Price and Tyler Gipson. Price was sent in on a double from Gipson prior to Gipson heading home on a Quaid Johns single.
The Eagles took the lead in the fifth with a score from Taylor Parcus on a sacrifice fly from Chris Miller.
Leading 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Eagles gave up three runs to the Crimson Storm to leave them trailing 5-3.
Oklahoma Christian put up one run to SNU's two in the seventh inning with a score by Price when Miller made it to first on an error.
Still trailing, the Eagles continued to make up the 7-4 difference with two more runs in the eighth to bring the score within one. Pinch runners Jay White and Josh Balch both scored on an error by SNU's third baseman to make the score 7-6.
The Eagles let it all out in the top of the ninth with four runs to make a 10-7 lead the Crimson Storm could not make up. Riley Jones, pinch running for Miller, rounded the bases first when Heath Steele doubled. Jeff Davis followed with a run when Dillon Andrews singled and was followed home by Steele when Parcus singled directly after. Dillon Andrews brought home the final score on a wild pitch to put the Eagles up 10-7.
The Eagles held SNU from scoring in the bottom of the inning to take the victory and improve their season record to 11-12 and conference record to 7-6.
The Eagles will host the Crimson Storm at Dobson Field on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
