OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 18, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team endured another loss for the week after losing 14-4 against Wayland Baptist University on Thursday night.
The Eagles were able to score early but found themselves victim to a run rule at the end of the seventh after Wayland Baptist continued to score.
The Pioneers put up a run in the first inning followed by two from the Eagles to take the early lead. Parcus made the first score for the Eagles after Dustin Andrews hit a single to right field leaving the opportunity. Dustin Andrews headed home on the next pitch when Justin Ebert followed suit hitting another single to right field.
WBU exploded with six runs in the second inning, however, to take a commanding 7-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Jay White, pinch running for Jeff Davis, made it home when WBU made an error on Heath Steele's fly to center field.
Heading into the third inning the Eagles trailed 7-3 as neither team made it home during the next two innings. At the top of the fifth, the Pioneer sent two more runners in and then three more in the sixth to push their lead to 12-3.
At the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles managed to score another run when Heath Steele hit a homerun over the fence.
Still trailing by eight runs, the Eagles were cut short when WBU scored two more runs in the seventh to earn a run rule victory.
Ebert led the Eagles from the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tyler Gipson added to the mix going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The OC baseball team is now 10-10 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
The Eagles will take on the Pioneers on Friday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
