Eagles sweep series against Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 26, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team swept their series against Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) on Saturday as they claimed both double header games winning the first 11-2 and taking the second 10-0.

Game 1

The Eagles tallied a constant stream of scoring in their first game as they started things off with two runs in the first inning. With both Taylor Parcus and Jordan Price on base, Clint Bowker took the plate and connected on a single to send both home for an early 2-0 lead.

OC scored three more runs in the second with Parcus crossing the plate first on a single from Bowker. An error on the play allowed Price to follow Parcus home for a two score play. Bowker then followed home as well when Zac Coshow hit a single up the middle.

The Eagles recorded a single run in the third and fourth innings, all the while keeping the Evangels scoreless. In the third inning, Josh Balch tallied a score when Dillon Andrews reached base on a fielder's choice. Following in the fourth, Jeff Davis hit a single to right-center field sending home Tyler Gipson for the score and leaving the Eagles at a 7-0 advantage.

Mid-America Christian finally got on the board in the fifth and sixth innings with a run in each, however, the Eagles responded with two runs of their own in each of the innings as well.

In the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded, Gipson hit a single to drive home Andrews and Price. In the sixth, Garrett Stephenson, pinch running for Davis, rounded the bases on a two-error play by the Evangels, and Steele later scored on a single from Andrews.

The Eagles managed three quick outs in the seventh to end the game with an 11-2 victory.

Bowker led at the plate with 2-for-3 success, three RBI, and one run scored. Additionally, Andrews and Gipson hit well going 2-for-4 and 2-for-2, respectively, while each tallied two RBI.

Dustin Andrews pitched the entire game to record the win with nine strikeouts and just two earned runs.

Game 2

The second game followed a similar suit as the Eagles again got on the board early with two runs. Parcus was the first to circle the bases scoring on a single from Dillon Andrews. Andrews later followed home on an error that allowed Coshow to reach base.

OC registered two more runs in the second when Steele scored on a Price single and Price later followed home on an error. After a scoreless third, the Eagles put up four more runs in the fourth to lead 8-0 heading into the fifth.

Andrews went home first on a sacrifice fly from Bowker before Davis hit a three run homer sending in Price and Coshow.

Holding MACU scoreless, the Eagles scored two more runs in the fifth to end the game early with a run rule 10-0 victory. Andrews cranked a triple to send home Steele and Parcus for the win.

Both Steele and Price saw perfect 3-for-3 hitting while Andrews helped out as well with 3-for-4 hitting and three RBI.

The wins bring the Eagles to an 8-2 season record and to 3-0 for conference play. The OC baseball team will return to Dobson Field on Tuesday to host Rogers State University (Okla.) in a single nine-inning game at 4 p.m.
