ALVA, Okla. (April 8, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fell 11-6 to Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday in the first game of their series.
The Eagles utilized the first inning of the game to gain a two run lead over the Rangers as OC held them from scoring. Taylor Parcus led off the Eagles' lineup and cranked out a home run to score the first run of the game. Dillon Andrews later made his way home on a pair of errors by Northwestern Oklahoma.
The Rangers responded in the second with two runs of their own to tie things up at 2-2. In the third inning the Rangers added another run to leave the Eagles down 3-2.
After making it to third base, Jordan Price scored a run off a balk by the pitcher to tie the game up for the second time.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, however, the Rangers regained the lead with two more runs to leave the Eagles at a 5-3 deficit.
After a scoreless sixth, OC came within one run of NWOSU when Jay White hit a home run for the Eagles in the top of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the inning, the Rangers erupted with six runs to put up a lead the Eagles could not regain.
With the scoreboard showing 11-4, the Eagles managed to score a run in each of the final two innings to suffer an 11-6 defeat. Price scored another run for the Eagles when Tyler Gipson hit a double in the eighth to drive him in. Heath Steele connected on a pitch in the ninth to send the Eagles' third homer over the fence for a final run.
Steele led the Eagles from the plate going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Dillon Andrews was 2-for-4 at the plate as well.
The Eagles now carry a 14-17 record and are 8-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OC will play host to NWOSU on Saturday to finish out their series with a double header starting at 1 p.m.
