OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 28, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fell to Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) 8-6 on Thursday night in their final game at Dobson Field this season.
The Eagles fell prey to a heavy hitting Southern Nazarene squad that out hit OC 14-7.
SNU took the lead first with a single run in the top of the first inning. The Eagles reacted in the bottom of the inning, however, with three runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second. Dillon Andrews was the first to head home doing so on a single from Tyler Gipson. On the next at bat, Clint Bowker shot a double to center field scoring both Jordan Price and Gipson for the two-run advantage.
In the top of the second, the Crimson Storm closed the gap to one with another single run to still leave the Eagles with the lead at 3-2. After holding the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, SNU stormed to a three-run lead with five hits and four runs in the third leave OC trailing 6-3.
The Eagles came back within one run in the fourth with two sacrifice flies. Andrews hit the first to send in pinch runner Garrett Stephenson before Caleb Price hit the second two batters later allowing Chance Nichols to make it home.
Another single run inning was seen from the Crimson Storm in the fifth bringing the score to 7-5 heading into the sixth when both squads tallied a run apiece to make it 8-6 heading into the seventh. Bowker was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to force Taylor Parcus home for the score.
Three scoreless innings closed out the game for the Eagles leaving the 8-6 win to the Crimson Storm.
Parcus led the Eagles at the plate going 3-for-5 with a run scored while Bowker helped out going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
With the loss, OC holds a 23-17 record on the season with a 15-13 record for conference play. The Eagles will close out their regular season with a double header against the Crimson Storm on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
