OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Mar. 18, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fell in the final series game against No. 5 Lubbock Christian University (Texas) on Friday losing 7-5 against the Chaparrals.
The Chaps were the first to score putting two runs on the board in the first to take the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles responded with a single run when Jordan Price scored on a single from Tyler Gipson.
Lubbock Christian put together a three-run inning in the second to advance to a 5-1 lead over the Eagles heading into the third.
After holding the Chaps from scoring, the Eagles put up three runs of their own in the third to trail by a single run. Dillon Andrews was the first to make it home when Dustin Andrews hit a single. Three batters later, Chance Nichols singled up the middle to drive in Price and Dustin Andrews for two RBI.
Two scoreless innings followed before LCU tallied another two scores in the sixth to pull to a 7-4 lead.
The Eagles struggled to respond as two more scoreless innings followed before the Eagles put together a final effort to tie things up in the ninth. In the bottom of the inning, Josh Balch hit a ground out to send home Dustin Andrews from third base to close the gap to a two-run deficit.
With Gipson left on third, Nichols was unable to beat the ground out at first leaving the 7-5 victory to the Chaps.
Gipson led at the plate going 3-for-4 while Dustin Andrews added in 3-for-5 hitting and an RBI.
The loss brings the Eagles to 13-7 overall and to 6-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The OC baseball team will stay at home for their next matchup as they host Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Tuesday in a double header beginning at 5 p.m.
