ALVA, Okla. (April 4, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team came out on top in their series against Northwestern Oklahoma State University as they captured two victories in their double header on Saturday winning the first game 12-1 and taking the second 15-12.
Game 1
In the first game, the Eagles started things off with a home run from Jordan Price to take a 1-0 lead before the Rangers responded in the bottom of the inning with a single run as well to show a 1-1 tie heading into the second.
Following a scoreless second inning, the Eagles put up two runs in the third when Dillon Andrews hit a two-run homer with Taylor Parcus on base to take a 3-1 lead over the Rangers.
In the fourth, the Eagles gapped themselves from Northwestern Oklahoma with a six-run inning. Andrews went home first for the Eagles on a double hit from Price. On the next at bat, Dustin Andrews hit a single to right to score Dillon Andrews. Price followed on the next batter when Bowker singled before Jeff Davis homered two batters later to send home Bowker and Dustin Andrews for a three-run hit.
Leading 9-1, the Eagles headed into a scoreless fifth before they added three more runs in the sixth to end the game an inning early with a run rule.
In the sixth, Dustin Andrews was the first to score heading home on a single from Josh Balch. Several batters later, Parcus connected on a double to left field to drive home pinch runner Garrett Stephenson and Balch for the 12-1 victory.
Dustin Andrews and Bowker led at the plate with 3-for-4 hitting while Dillon Andrews went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Davis made a big contribution as well with 2-for-4 hitting and three RBI.
Conner Williams grabbed the win for the Eagles pitching the complete game and tallying four strikeouts and only one earned run.
Game 2
The second game came down to an offensive hitting battle as the Eagles put up 17 hits to the Rangers' 11.
NWOSU took a huge early lead in the first with seven runs to lead 7-0 heading into the second. The Eagles responded with a single run in the second when Chance Nichols hit a single to send in Bowker for the score.
An inning later, the Eagles put up four more runs as they hacked away at the Ranger gap. Two runs came from another homer from Price that scored Dillon Andrews as well while the other two resulted from a homer run hit from Bowker to also send home Dustin Andrews to come within two runs of the Rangers at 7-5.
The Rangers pulled back away in the bottom of the inning, however, with three more runs to lead 10-5 heading into the fourth. The Eagles responded accordingly with three runs of their own to come back within two at 10-8.
Nichols rounded the bases first heading home on a sacrifice fly from Parcus. Three batters later, Dustin Andrews hit a single to send home both Dillon Andrews and Caleb Price for the scores.
Trailing by two, the Eagles held the Rangers in the bottom of the inning and put up five runs in the fifth to take the lead at 13-10. With two quick outs, Nichols got things started with yet another home run for the Eagles. Two batters later, Parcus hit a single to drive in Caleb Price from home. With two still on base, Jordan Price hit his third homer of the day to put up three more runs.
The Rangers once again responded with two runs to sit just a run short of the Eagles at 13-12 heading into the sixth.
A scoreless inning followed before the Eagles put up two more runs in the seventh to claim the three-run victory.
Parcus scored the first run on a error by the Rangers before Jordan Price followed with a double to send home Dillon Andrews to finalize the 15-12 win.
Jordan Price took care of business at the plate going 3-for-5 with six RBI while Parcus, Nichols, and Caleb Price all went 3-for-4.
The wins bring the Eagles to 17-10 overall and to 9-7 for conference play. OC will stay on the road for their next matchup as they head to Rogers State University on Tuesday to finish out their series with a double header starting at 4 p.m.
