Heath Steele's triple was one of only two hits for OC on Saturday during a 5-0 loss to No. 9 Oklahoma Baptist.
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 10, 2012) – Oklahoma Baptist right-hander Chad Hardison pitched a two-hit shutout and the No. 9-ranked Bison homered three times en route to a 5-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field.
Hardison (5-0) struck out 10 batters and allowed only an infield single by Cody Alsup in the fourth inning and a one-out triple to centerfield by Heath Steele in the fifth inning. OC (7-8, 3-7 Sooner Athletic Conference) managed only four baserunners against Hardison, who retired eight batters in a row to end the game.
"We're not playing very good right now at all," OC coach Chuck White said. "Our pitching is doing their job. We had good defense today. We got ourselves out of some situations. But we're just not scoring runs, for whatever reason. We don't have a good approach at the plate."
Michael Sliger went 2-for-3 for OBU (21-2, 5-0), doubling down the left-field line and scoring in the first inning. Daniel Baptista also went 2-for-3 and hit a solo home run in the fourth inning that put the Bison ahead 2-0.
Frankie Rivera hit a solo home run in the seventh and Daniel Howell added a two-run shot in the eighth off OC starter Luke Sandoval (2-2).
Sandoval allowed nine hits and five runs in 7 1/3 innings. Heath Orndorff pitched 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief for the Eagles.
"Luke did well and then Heath came in and threw strikes," White said. "They threw good enough for us to win. We just didn't score for them."
The Eagles and Bison will conclude their three-game series on Monday at 6 p.m. at Dobson Field.
