Ryan Nash started and pitched five innings for OC in a 12-3 loss at Central Oklahoma.
EDMOND, Okla. (April 21, 2012) – Jared Wright hit a grand slam during a six-run fifth inning and Central Oklahoma added four more runs in the seventh inning while beating visiting Oklahoma Christian 12-3 on Saturday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game baseball series.
OC (8-31) and UCO (30-14) were tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth before the Bronchos roughed up OC starter Ryan Nash.
UCO's Cameron Mavroulis reached on an error by second baseman Tanner Hessman to start the inning, and that miscue came back to haunt the Eagles, as Wright's grand slam came with two outs. The Bronchos followed with three straight singles, with the last one by Eric Garza bringing home two runs.
Wes Dorough had an RBI double and Garrett Stephenson followed with a run-scoring single for OC in the sixth to cut the gap to 7-3, but UCO sealed the win with its four-run seventh. Kevin Blue had a two-run double to put the Bronchos up 11-3.
OC's leadoff and No. 2 hitters, Dillon Andrews and Daniel Thompson, combined to go 5-for-10, but the rest of the Eagles went 5-for-25. UCO had 15 hits against four OC pitchers.
UCO reliever Ryan Wagner (3-2) pitched two innings of shutout ball to pick up the win. Nash (0-4) allowed eight hits and seven runs – only one of those earned – in five innings while taking the loss for OC.
The Eagles will wrap up their season next week with a series against Sooner Athletic Conference rival Mid-America Christian. OC will host the Evangels on Thursday before visiting MACU for a doubleheader on Saturday.
