Jerry Owen homered twice for OC in a doubleheader against Briar Cliff (Iowa) but the Eagles lost both games.
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 13, 2012) – Briar Cliff (Iowa) jumped to a 14-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 16-10 win over Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday at Dobson Field, completing a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles.
Briar Cliff (9-5) won the opener 5-4. Oklahoma Christian (7-11) has lost a season-high six straight games.
The Chargers rolled up 18 hits in the second game against five OC pitchers. OC starter Jacob Stephenson (0-2) didn't record an out in the second inning and gave up six hits and six runs.
Gary Davis went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Briar Cliff while Reece Steckler had four RBIs. The Chargers led 16-2 before OC scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Tanner Hessman, Jerry Owen and Caleb Price each had a pair of hits for the Eagles. Owen added three RBIs, one on a solo home run, his second of the doubleheader. Briar Cliff starter Zach Watts (1-0) gave up four hits and one run in five innings to earn the win.
In the opener, Jason Cervantes' two-run home run in the sixth inning lifted Briar Cliff to a 5-4 win.
Daniel Thompson's solo homer in the second gave OC a 1-0 lead, but the Chargers rallied for three runs in the fourth, taking advantage of two OC errors. The Eagles tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth on RBI singles by Hessman and Thompson, who went 2-for-3.
Cervantes' shot over the left-field wall off OC reliever Harrison Mendez (2-1) put Briar Cliff back ahead. Owen hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh for OC, but Heath Steele grounded out to end the game against Beau Brown, who picked up his sixth save of the season.

OC will play Wednesday at home against York (Neb.) in a nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m.
