CHICKASHA, Okla. (March 31, 2012) – USAO pitchers limited Oklahoma Christian to eight hits in a doubleheader as the Drovers swept a doubleheader 6-0 and 9-5 at Bill Smith Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.
OC (7-22, 3-18 Sooner Athletic Conference) suffered its fifth straight series sweep by a conference foe. The Eagles have lost 17 straight games.
Seth Sturgeon (4-0) allowed only two hits while going the distance for USAO in the opener – a third-inning single by Dillon Andrews and a fourth-inning single by Heath Steele. The Eagles didn't advance a runner past second base.
Blake Taylor went 3-for-3 for the Drovers while Jared Coon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Zach Gonzalez delivered a two-run double during a three-run fifth inning for USAO (19-15, 10-9).
Ryan Morris (2-7) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up 10 hits and four runs in five innings.
USAO jumped on second-game starter Will Reinke (0-2) for five hits and six runs in 1 1/3 innings. The Drovers led 8-2 before OC rallied with three runs in the sixth inning, two on a single by Caleb Price. Price and Daniel Thompson each went 2-for-4 for the Eagles.
Coon finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Drovers, while Heath Wilda was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and scored two runs. Newt Compton also went 3-for-4 and had three RBIs.
Eddie Cervantes (2-5) allowed four hits and two runs in five innings for USAO.
The Eagles will return to action Tuesday at 4 p.m., when they will host Texas Wesleyan in a nonconference game.
