Jerry Owen had OC's only RBI in a 12-2 loss Friday night at Oklahoma Baptist.
SHAWNEE, Okla. (March 9, 2012) – Michael Cerda and Michael Sliger each had four RBIs and No. 9-ranked Oklahoma Baptist seized control with a six-run fifth-inning outburst en route to a 12-2 win over Oklahoma Christian on Friday night.
OC (7-7, 3-6 Sooner Athletic Conference) managed only five hits against four OBU pitchers, including starter Steven Messner (5-1). The four Bison hurlers combined for 12 strikeouts.
OBU (20-2, 4-0) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning off OC starter Ryan Morris (2-3). The Eagles pulled within 2-1 in the third, as Caleb Price doubled and scored on a single by Jerry Owen. OBU answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
OC's Tanner Hessman was hit by a pitch and scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth, making it 3-2, but the Bison sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning. Cerda started the inning for OBU with a solo home run to left-centerfield and Sliger added a bases-loaded triple.
Cerda added a two-run double in the seventh and Daniel Howell's RBI single in the eighth put the Bison ahead 12-2, ending the game due to the 10-run rule.
Morris allowed eight hits and nine runs (six earned) in five innings.
The Eagles and Bison will play a nine-inning game at noon Saturday at OC's Dobson Field. The series will conclude Monday at 6 p.m. in another nine-inning game at OC.
