No. 3 OCU rolls past Eagles 16-2

Tanner Hessman scored one of OC's runs in a 16-2 loss at Oklahoma City University.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 12, 2012) – Kale Gaden went 5-for-5 with five RBIs, No. 3-ranked Oklahoma City University recorded a season-high 25 hits and the Stars rolled to a 16-2 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night at Jim Wade Stadium.

The baseball game was shortened to seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

OCU (31-7, 19-3 Sooner Athletic Conference) scored three runs in the first inning as five consecutive batters reached base against OC starter Ryan Morris (2-9). The Stars added four more runs in the third, three in the fourth and six in the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate.

OCU had at least two hits in every inning. Chad Carman, Miguel Beltran, Dane Phillips and Jonathan Sigado had three hits each for the Stars.

OC (7-27, 3-22) scored both of its runs in the fifth inning. Tanner Hessman reached on an error by OCU shortstop Chris Munoz and Heath Steele followed with a double that landed just inside the right-field line. One out later, Evan Draper doubled to centerfield to score Hessman and Steele.

OCU left-hander Rich Hawkins (9-1) allowed four hits in six innings and struck out three.

Steele finished 2-for-3 for the Eagles, who will try to snap a 22-game losing streak on Friday when they host OCU at 1 p.m. at Dobson Field.
