EDMOND - Oklahoma Christian (7-6, 1-1) swept past Newman (4-11, 0-2), by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 28-26, on Tuesday evening at the Eagles' Nest, led by a dominant offensive display from sophomore Chloe Jones.
Set 1: Oklahoma Christian 25, Newman 23
The Eagles established momentum early as Jones set the tone with five kills, while Leah Duncan dominated the net with a team-high 8.5 points. Oklahoma Christian hit .355 in the frame, holding off a late Newman rally to take the opening set 25-23.
Set 2: Oklahoma Christian 25, Newman 22
Freshman Kenzy McArtor ignited the offense in set two, racking up five kills on seven attempts (.714 hitting percentage). Combined with a pair of key blocks and steady play from libero Macey Nehring on the back row, OC took advantage of Newman attack errors late to secure the 25-22 win.
Set 3: Oklahoma Christian 28, Newman 26
The third set proved to be a marathon featuring 11 tie scores and four lead changes, after OC initially jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Jones delivered eight kills in the frame alone, including clutch late-set attacks, while Molly Brunell provided big swings and the final match-clinching block alongside Duncan to cap the 28-26 battle.
