EDMOND - Oklahoma Christian volleyball delivered a gritty home performance, shaking off a tight opening-set loss to claim three consecutive sets and secure a 3-1 victory over UT Tyler in front of an electric environment in The Nest.
Set 1: UT Tyler 27, Oklahoma Christian 25
Oklahoma Christian found themselves in an early hole as UT Tyler capitalized on an 8-1 run to build an 8-3 advantage. The Eagles stayed composed and began chipping away at the deficit midway through the frame. Down 18-14, OC caught fire, sparked by kills from Kenzy McArtor and Susanna Hodson, to go on a 6-1 run. A service ace by Summer Van Meerveld capped the rally, giving the Eagles a 20-19 lead and forcing a Patriots timeout.
The closing stretch was a back-and-forth thriller. Molly Brunell got a kill off a Van Meerveld set to knot the score at 24-24, saving set point. After UT Tyler went back up 25-24, Chloe Jones responded with a clutch kill off a Payton Cash setup to level things again at 25-25. However, the Patriots managed to put together the final two points to hold off the Eagles 27-25 in an opening set that featured 10 tie scores and three lead changes.
Set 2: Oklahoma Christian 25, UT Tyler 23
Refusing to let the narrow Game 1 loss linger, the Eagles struck first in set two behind strong defense and solid net play. With the set tied 14-14, Leah Duncan took over at the net with a huge solo block, fueling a decisive 3-0 spurt. Cash then put on a clinic behind the service line, landing back-to-back aces to push OC ahead 17-14 and prompt a UT Tyler timeout.
The Patriots pushed back late, taking an 18-17 lead, but OC answered every challenge down the stretch. Brunell and McArtor delivered critical kills in the late rotation to keep pace. Trailing 23-22, Clinton committed a service error for UT Tyler to pull OC even. Brunell then put the Eagles on top 24-23 with another booming attack set up by Van Meerveld.
With set point on the line, the OC block shut the door when McArtor and Duncan combined for a massive block assist on an Autumn Perry attack, sealing the 25-23 victory to draw the Eagles even in the match, 1-1.
Set 3: Oklahoma Christian 25, UT Tyler 20
Building on their momentum from set two, Oklahoma Christian jumped out to an early 12-8 lead in the third frame following back-to-back attack errors forced by the Eagles' defensive pressure, prompting a quick UT Tyler timeout.
The Patriots mounted a mid-set surge to briefly pull ahead 14-13, but the Eagles' attack quickly flipped the script. Trailing 17-16, OC went on a game-defining 6-0 run. Brunell sparked the run with a kill off Macey Nehring's set, followed immediately by a Lauren Cary kill and an unforced UT Tyler bad set. Cary then added another kill, and a Gracie Trulson attack error capped the spurt at 22-17 to put OC in complete control.
With set point in hand, Kenzy McArtor delivered the decisive blow off an assist from Payton Cash to seal the 25-20 victory and put OC ahead 2-1 in the match.
Set 4: Oklahoma Christian 25, UT Tyler 23
Set four proved to be another battle of attrition, featuring high-powered offense from both sides. Early service aces from Lauren Cary and Payton Cash kept the Eagles locked in a tight duel. Tied 15-15, OC made its push: back-to-back kills from Brunell and Chloe Jones were capped by a massive double block from Brunell and Cary, stretching the Eagles' cushion to 17-15 and forcing a UT Tyler timeout.
The Eagles held their edge late as McArtor consistently answered Patriot points with kills from the outside, extending the margin to 20-17. UT Tyler made one final push to erase the deficit and tie the frame at 23-23, prompting an OC timeout.
Out of the stoppage, Susanna Hodson brought up match point with a clutch kill off a Van Meerveld set. On the final rally, Sara Freeman delivered a pressure serve that forced an attack error by UT Tyler's Autumn Perry, sealing the 25-23 victory and wrapping up the 3-1 home win for
