Oklahoma Christian (13-27, 13-27 LSC) will return to Dobson Baseball Field for games three and four starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Apr. 10 as OC looks for its first series win of the season.
Game One: Oklahoma Christian 13, UT Permian Basin 12
Both teams put up crooked numbers in the first frame, with Permian Basin holding the lead after six outs, 5-3. Three more unanswered runs put the Falcons out ahead after three and a half innings, 8-3.
Oklahoma Christian saw its biggest inning of the day in the fourth, turning the five-run deficit into a one-run advantage with a six-spot, capped off with a two-out, three-RBI home run from Castro to give OC its first lead of the contest, 9-8.
Permian Basin quickly regained its second lead of the outing with four more unanswered before OC came to the dish trailing by three with six outs to work with. A lead-off homer from
Tanner Forbus preceded a no-out bases loaded look from the Eagles, taking the lead for the final time with consecutive sacrifice flies from
Justin Spencer and
Connor Sanderson.
With Malone coming to the bump in the top of the seventh, UTPB put the tying run at first before the Eagles defense worked its second double-play of the game as a third-base ground-out delivered the one-run victory for the maroon-and-gray, 13-12. Â
Game Two: Oklahoma Christian 5, UT Permian Basin 4
Oklahoma Christian starting pitcher J.J. Rickert did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, while the Falcons' starter held OC equally at bay as play stood at 1-1 after four frames. A brief 2-1 lead by UTPB was quickly erased with a three-run bottom of the fifth thanks a a two-out, RBI-triple from Forbus and a two-out, two-run shot over the center field wall.
Despite loading the bases in the sixth, the Eagles did not score another run until the ninth inning as Permian Basin slowly chipped away with single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie it up, 4-4. Mitchell struck out the side in the eighth before working his second straight three-up, three-down inning in the top of the ninth to give OC to chance to walk it off in the home half.
Jaret Liebbe got the inning started off with a lead-off single before reaching third on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch. With two outs facing the maroon-and-gray, Thomas came to the plate with the winning run 90 feet from home plate. A single over the shortstops head advanced Liebbe home, sparking the celebration as OC took game two, 5-4.
