EDMOND, Okla. -
Jill Dickson (11-2) recorded her fifth career no-hitter before
Ella Resendiz (7-0) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of game two as No. 12 Oklahoma Christian swept the doubleheader against UT Permian Basin, 8-0 and 7-0.
Across Friday's 13 innings of play, Dickson (12) and Resendiz (10) combined for 22 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and zero runs. Dickson's fifth-career no-hitter was one hit batter away from her first career perfect game while she matched her season-high with 12 punch-outs.
Kallie Rupp (5-for-9) and
Maci George (4-for-8) each recorded multiple hits in both games against the Falcons, including a three-hit game one. In game two,
Taryn Blazevich (2-for-2) was one of five Eagles to claim at least two hits, as her and
Sydnee Seat (2-for-3) each used two RBI to accompany their pair of base knocks.
No. 12 Oklahoma Christian (22-4, 14-2 LSC) will return to Tom Heath Field Saturday, Mar. 14 for a showdown with No. 8 Angelo State. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Game One: No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 8, UT Permian Basin 0 (6 inn.)
Following Dickson's first of five three-up, three-down innings, George immediately put OC on the board with a lead-off inside-the-park home run for the 1-0 lead after six outs.
The LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year struck out the next seven Falcons as the Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the second off a
Madi Drummond RBI-single and Seat sacrifice fly. After a scoring hiatus in the third, another run in the fourth put the maroon-and-gray ahead 4-0 with three more scheduled innings.
Despite a lead-off hit batter for UTPB in the fifth for the Falcons' first base runner, a caught stealing three batters later allowed Dickson to finish the game facing the minimum of 18 batters. Following one more run in the fifth, OC's biggest inning finished things early in the sixth.
Following a lead-off double from
Marti Yaerger in the sixth, the Eagles' final three runs all came on two outs for OC's fifth run-rule victory of conference. Â
Game Two: No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 7, UT Permian Basin 0
Oklahoma Christian held a 1-0 lead until the fifth inning, while Permian Basin had seen just one base runner to that point after Resendiz struck out eight of the first 10 UTPB batters she faced. In the fifth, OC posted its second three-run inning of the day.
Three runs on three hits put Oklahoma Christian ahead, 4-0, before another three-run frame in the sixth, featuring Seat's first career home run, delivered the game's final score, 7-0. The Falcons were finally able to break through slightly in the seventh, getting their only two hits of the game, loading the bases with no outs before Resendiz retired the final three batters unscathed.Â
