EDMOND, Okla. -
Miles Gibson recorded career highs in points (31) and rebounds (17), but a late run from the Eagles came up just shy of bouncing West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon, 91-87.
Gibson became the first Eagle to secure a 30-15 game since John Moon put up 30 and 21 against Texas A&M International back on Feb. 11, 2017.
Jason Clark backed up Gibson with 25 points - just his third 20-point game of the season - followed by
Carson Jones with 15. Outside of that trio, however, OC managed just 16 more points. West Texas' bench outscored the Eagles, 26-1.
The Buffaloes came out quick, knocking down two of of its game-high 10 three-pointers in the two a half minutes of action before opening a double-digit lead three minutes later. West Texas saw its biggest of the game at the 4:34 mark of the first half, 48-25, before going into halftime with a 19-point advantage.
Oklahoma Christian slowly began to whittle WT's lead down, eventually even taking its first lead of the game at the 8:04 mark of the second half, 71-70. From that point on, neither team held a lead bigger than six points, with OC cutting the Buffalo lead to one off a Jones three-pointer with 18 seconds left, 88-87.
A 1-for-2 trip to the free-throw line on the other end for West Texas gave OC a change to tie it up or even take the lead, but a missed runner allowed the Buffs to ice it at the free-throw line, this time converting both freebies for the 91-87 victory.
Oklahoma Christian (9-11, 4-10 LSC) will make its last trip the Lone Star State next week when it takes on (RV) DBU and UT Tyler on the road Thursday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 14, respectively.
