Elite Pitching and Hitting Leads OC Past LCU in Doubleheader Sweep

EDMOND, Okla. - Jill Dickson (7-2) and Ella Resendiz (4-0) combined to throw 18 strikeouts in 14 innings of work as No. 13 Oklahoma Christian swept Lubbock Christian in a doubleheader Friday, Feb. 27, 7-2 and 3-1.

In game one, Dickson recorded nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits, none of which came until the sixth inning. Resendiz matched Dickson with nine punch-outs in the second contest, also allowing three hits while giving up just one run.

Reigning Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week Kadence Brewster (6-for-7) continued her strong start to the season with a near-perfect day at the plate, tallying three hits in each of Friday's games, including two doubles and one home run, to go with three RBI. Maci George backed up Ka. Brewster with four hits on the day, including a 3-for-3 game one with three RBI.

The Eagles recorded double-digit hits in each of Friday's meetings, marking OC's ninth game with 10 or more hits. The maroon-and-gray are now third in the LSC with 176 total hits on the season.

Oklahoma Christian (15-3, 7-1 LSC) will have one day off before hosting Midwestern State in a doubleheader Sunday, Mar. 1 beginning at 1 p.m.

Game One: No. 13 Oklahoma Christian 7, Lubbock Christian 2
Oklahoma Christian brought a runner to third base in the first inning, but were unable to put up any runs until the third frame. With LCU only seeing two base runners at the point in the game, Ka. Brewster used a RBI-double to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.

Four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth opened a 5-0 lead for the maroon-and-gray while Lubbock was still searching for its first hit. Two runs on its first three hits of the game came in the sixth inning to close the gap to three, 5-2. Moments later, the Eagles added two insurance runs in the home-half of the sixth to re-open a five-run lead, 7-2.

Dickson slammed the door on the Lady Chaparrals with back-to-back strikeouts to start off the seventh inning before a ground-out yielded the conference preseason pitcher of the year's fourth three-up, three-down frame of the afternoon.

Game Two: No. 13 Oklahoma Christian 3, Lubbock Christian 1
Resendiz picked up where her veteran counterpart led off, retiring the first three LCU batters she faced. The scoring came much quicker for the Eagles in game two as five hits plated two runs thanks to an RBI-single and RBI-double from Danae Lopez and Kallie Rupp, respectively.

The lead remained 2-0 until Ka. Brewster hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the third, marking OC's final run of the outing. From there, Resendiz allowed just three hits and one run in Lubbock's second-to-last at-bat as the Eagles took the 3-1 victory to complete the day's sweep.
