No. 14 Eagles Sweep Doubleheader Against Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. - No. 14 Oklahoma Christian completed its six-game week with a doubleheader sweep of Eastern New Mexico Sunday, Feb. 22, 11-3 and 4-1.

Game-one starting pitcher Jill Dickson (6-2) and game-two starter Ella Resendiz (3-0) combined to throw sixteen strikeouts while allowing three total runs in 12 innings, with Resendiz getting the complete-game victory in the second contest.

Ally McDougal (5-for-7) saw a terrific day at the dish, claiming multiple hits in both outings, including a three-hit showing in game one. Maci George recorded a .778 on-base percentage between the two games, claiming three hits while also working three walks and a hit-by-pitch to go with her two RBI and two runs scored.

On the week, OC went 4-2 with wins over No. 13 Rogers State, No. 5 West Texas A&M and a pair of victories over Eastern New Mexico.

No. 14 Oklahoma Christian (13-3, 5-1 LSC) will return to the Lawson Softball Complex and Tom Heath Field this weekend when it faces Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State Friday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Mar. 1, respectively.

Game One: No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 11, Eastern New Mexico 3 (6 inn.)
Oklahoma Christian scored single runs in the second, third and fourth inning to open a 3-0 lead on what was just five hits at that time. One one swing of the bat, Eastern New Mexico closed the gap to one run with a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the tally to 3-2.

In the fifth frame, OC nearly matched its total hits up to that point, plating six runs on four hits and two ENMU errors to open a 9-2 lead. Two more Eagle runs came in the sixth without putting a ball in play as one more run from the Greyhounds in the bottom of the sixth was not enough to keep the game from ending early as Oklahoma Christian took it, 11-3.

Game Two: No. 14 Oklahoma Christian 4, Eastern New Mexico 1
Resendiz was throwing a perfect game through three innings, retiring the first nine Greyhound batters, with five of them courtesy of striking out. After Oklahoma Christian scored the game's first run in the third, 1-0, Eastern found some offense in the fourth with one run off two hits to tie the game.

Despite ENMU able to find four more hits the rest of the way, Resendiz and the Eagle defense held the Greyhounds scoreless the rest of the way. A sacrifice fly in the sixth had OC re-establish its lead, 2-1, before two more runs on three hits in the top of the seventh.

Eastern had the tying run come to the plate in the final half-inning with two runners on with no outs, but Resendiz completed her stellar nine-strikeout outing with two of the final three coming via punch-out.
