Munson’s Brace and Defensive Shutout Secure Road Win in Portales

PORTALES, New Mexico - Jenna Munson notched a second-half brace to power Oklahoma Christian to a 2-0 shutout victory over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Eagles broke through in the 63rd minute when Munson netted an unassisted tally, her fifth goal of the season, to give OC a 1-0 lead. Munson put the match out of reach in the 83rd minute, capitalizing on a feed from Macey McFarlane to complete her two-goal performance and secure her sixth goal of the year.

Breanna Wooten stood tall in goal for Oklahoma Christian, turning away all six shots on target from the Greyhounds to record her second clean sheet of the week and complete-game shutout.

OC outshot Eastern New Mexico 12-9 overall and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks to close out the Lone Star Conference (LSC) road win.

The win capped off an unbeaten 1-0-1 week for the Eagles following Wednesday's scoreless draw against UT Tyler, and with that, the Oklahoma Christian improves to 8-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play.

Notes

  • The brace was Munson's second in her last three matches, and she now leads the team in goals with six.

  • Wooten's clean sheet was her fifth (third in the LSC), and the team's seventh, which ties with the 2024 team for the most in a season in the DII era.
