Defensive Shutout and Jefferson's Late Goal Secure Historic Road Win

LAREDO, Texas - Oklahoma Christian women's soccer delivered late drama on Wednesday morning, using an unassisted 86th-minute strike from Caid Jefferson to secure a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M International at Dustdevil Field.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 9-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Dustdevils dropped to 2-10-0 overall and 2-8-0 in LSC action.

How It Happened

Both sides battled through a scoreless, physical first half featuring 12 combined fouls. Oklahoma Christian launched early attempts from Jenna Munson and Jefferson in the opening six minutes to put early pressure on TAMIU. Texas A&M International created opportunities of its own, but goalkeeper Breanna Wooten stood tall to keep the game deadlocked into halftime.

The intensity ramped up in the second period as TAMIU pressured the Eagles' backline with four shots on target, testing Wooten in the 74th, 75th, and 82nd minutes. Wooten turned away all four shots on target she faced during the match to earn the clean sheet.

The breakthrough arrived late in the 86th minute when Jefferson slotted home her team-leading seventh goal of the season, and broke the 0-0 tie.

Maci White nearly added insurance in the 89th minute with a shot on goal saved by TAMIU keeper Patricia Perez, but the single goal proved enough to secure the conference road victory.

The victory marks the Eagles' fifth road win of the season, making their road record to 5-1 and matching the program's highest road win total since 2008. Additionally, the team's six Lone Star Conference victories tie the program record for most conference wins in its Division II era.
