Oklahoma Christian Shoots Past Sul Ross State, 80-59

Box Score ALPINE, Texas - Behind a season-high 69.2 percent (9-of-13) shooting from behind the three-point line, Oklahoma Christian handled Sul Ross State down in southwest Texas, 80-59.

Thursday marked OC's largest margin of victory over a conference opponent since joining the Lone Star Conference ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Three Eagles made at least two three-pointers, with Jason Clark leading the way with a 3-for-3 night from distance, finishing with 17 points. Elijah Bailey and Carson Jones tied for game-high 18 points, with the duo each eclipsing 72.0 percent shooting from the floor.

Miles Gibson finished his evening missing just two shots all game, going 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to make up his 16 points. As a team, Oklahoma Christian shot 64.4 percent (29-of-45) from the floor, serving as its highest single-game field-goal percentage in the LSC era.

Sul Ross State opened the game by making two three-pointers in the first 71 seconds of game action, holding that lead until a Miles Gibson triple with 16:25 on the clock. The Eagles would not trail the rest of the game, as that Gibson trey came as part of a 13-0 run for an 18-8 lead.

The Lobos refused to roll over in the first half, however, climbing back to keep the score within five for much of the back half of the first 20 minutes. Sul Ross matched OC's hot first-half shooting to come within four of the Eagles at the break, 39-35.

With the maroon-and-gray still managing just a seven-point lead with 4:14 remaining in regulation, the Eagle defense finished strong by holding Sul Ross without a field-goal for the final four minutes in route to its 21-point victory.

Oklahoma Christian (9-6, 4-5 LSC) will continue its road trip west when it takes on the 11-4 Western New Mexico Mustangs Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. MT / 4 p.m. CT.
