Eagles Blank Permian Basin in LSC Challenge Opener

EDMOND, Okla. - In its first time hosting an LSC Challenge in program history, Oklahoma Christian women's volleyball swept Texas Permian Basin Thursday night for its home opener, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22. The win avenges OC's five-set loss to UTPB in conference play last season.

Annie Davis had a match-high 15 kills while hitting .423 for her third best attack percentage in a single match when registering 15 kills for her career. Chloe Jones followed Davis with her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. True freshman Payton Cash led the team with four blocks while claiming three kills without a single attack error for a .429 attack percentage.

Permian Basin scored the first point of the match while staying on Oklahoma Christian's hip during much of the opening set. Leading 17-16, back-to-back kills from Camryn McGough gave OC the slim edge it needed to control the set. Another kill from McGough paired with a set error from UTPB gave the Eagles the two-point edge, 25-23.

Once again, OC held a one-point lead halfway through the stanza, 10-9, before the maroon-and-gray closed the set on a 15-9 run for its most lopsided victory of the night, 25-18. The Eagles out-hit the Falcons in set two, .333 to .118, behind Davis' eight kills, including securing three of OC's first four points in the frame.

Down 2-0, a scrappy Permian Basin team refused to go away, scoring the first three points of the third set before holding a lead all the way till 17-15. With Oklahoma Christian's sixth sweep of the season in jeopardy, a 7-2 run, thanks in part to an assisted and solo block from Cash during the spurt, pushed OC out ahead just in time, 22-19, before eventually closing it, 25-22.

Oklahoma Christian (7-1, 0-0 LSC) will have one day off before returning to the Payne Athletics Center for the Eagles' second match of the LSC Challenge Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. when Lubbock Christian ventures into The Nest.
