No. 8 OC Third at Firekeeper Invite After Day One

MAYETTA, Kan. - In its last tournament of the regular season, Bushnell/Golfweek No. 8 Oklahoma Christian closed day one in third place with a 36-hole score of 3-over 579 following rounds of 1-over 289 and 2-over 290.

Concordia-St. Paul leads the 19-team field, followed by No. 5 Central Oklahoma. Both CSP and UCO's second rounds were cut short due to darkness, with both programs holding six and two stroke leads on the Eagles, respectively.

Oskari Nikku leads the way for Oklahoma Christian with a two-round, 2-under 142, for a spot at fifth on the player leaderboard. Nikku closes opening day as one of nine golfers in the 112-player field to shoot at or below par in each of the first two rounds.

Nikku opened the first round shooting 3-under on the front nine, including an eagle on the par 5 525-yard 4th hole. After sitting 2-over with three holes remaining in his second round, the Tuusula, Finland, native birdied two of his final three holes to sit inside the top-5.

Exequiel Rodriguez, who came to the Sunflower State as the five-bag of OC's lineup, is second on the team and 12 on the player leaderboard after 36 holes. Following an opening-round 2-under 70, Rodriguez shot 2-over 74 on his second 18 to finish 12th.

Leandro Mihaich heads into the final round tied with Rodriguez at even-par 144. Mihaich answered a 1-over 73 with a 1-under 71 in the second round, climbing 10 spots into the top-12.

Blas Ayesa, after shooting a 5-over 77 in the first round, moved up 21 spots with a second-round 1-over 73 to head into the final round tied at 40th at 6-over 150. Ayesa carded 15 pars in his second round to move up the leaderboard.

Joey Lewis rounded out the OC five-bag with a 7-over 151, while Vertti Perala, who is playing this tournament as an individual, finds himself the top-20 with a 36-hole, 2-over 146.

No. 8 Oklahoma Christian will return to Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan., for the final round Tuesday, Apr. 8 at 9 a.m.
