EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian men's golf alum Mateo Pulcini (2019-23), after winning the 2026 Latin America Amateur Championship, competed in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., last month with head OC men's golf coach
David Lynn caddying for his former player.
With Lynn by his side, Pulcini started play at the 126th U.S. Open with an even-par 35 through his first nine, including three birdies, before closing day one 4-over 74. Pulcini closed his Open debut at 11-over 151.
"[Having Coach Lynn caddy for me at the U.S. Open] was awesome," Pulcini said. "We had an unbelievable time out there in such an incredible event and great place."
"Caddying for Mateo in the U.S. Open was an incredible experience," current head men's golf coach and athletics director Lynn said. "Getting to share that with him is something that is very special to me. Seeing his maturity from the time he showed up on OC's campus in 2019 to competing against the best players in the world is nothing short of spectacular. I am grateful that he included me and being inside the ropes was such a unique and amazing experience."
Pulcini finished his Eagles career as a three-time PING All-American while helping lead Oklahoma Christian to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Runner-Up finishes in 2022 and 2023 before spending his final year of eligibility at the University of Arkansas.
"I would not change my time at Oklahoma Christian for anything," Pulcini said. "I learned a lot about myself and how to live life in addition to play golf. Coach Lynn is one of the main reasons for the success that I have been having lately."
After becoming the oldest player to ever win the LAAC and becoming Argentina's third champion, Pulcini competed at the 2026 Master's in what was his first major championship start, carding rounds of 9-over 81 and 6-over 78.
Up next for Pulcini is The Open Championship from Royal Birkdale Golf Club July 16-19. The Rio Cuarto, Argentina, native will tee off for round one at 2:25 a.m. CT playing alongside Spain's Angel Ayora and France's Victor Perez.
