Eagles Split Doubleheader at Texas Woman’s to Close Regular Season

DENTON, Texas — No. 16 Oklahoma Christian put on an offensive show in game one before dropping the second to Texas Woman's University in Saturday's regular-season finale doubleheader at Dianne Baker Field

GAME 1: Oklahoma Christian 8, Texas Woman's 5.

The Eagles piled up 16 hits, matching their second-highest total of the season. Marti Yaerger had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and scoring twice, while Sydnee Seat added a 3-for-4 effort with three RBI of her own.

After two scoreless innings, Oklahoma Christian broke through in the third. Kallie Rupp and Kadence Brewster opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Yaerger delivered an RBI single up the middle. Seat then drove in two more with a single to center, capitalizing on a Texas Woman's error to make it a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles continued to apply pressure in the fourth. Rupp singled again, and after a TWU miscue, Yaerger's second RBI hit extended the lead to 4-1. Seat followed with another RBI single, giving OC a comfortable four-run cushion.

Jill Dickson (19-9) kept the Pioneers primarily in check through five innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out four. OC tacked on three more insurance runs in the sixth, highlighted by a booming RBI double from Karsyn Iltis and another hit from Kadence Brewster.

TWU mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs to tighten the game, but Kadance Brewster entered in relief and slammed the door with a perfect inning to earn her second save of the season.

The win gave the Eagles a strong start to their final regular-season series, with all nine starters recording at least one hit.

GAME 2: Texas Woman's 4, Oklahoma Christian 0

In the second game, Oklahoma Christian's offense struggled to maintain its earlier momentum, falling 4-0 to Texas Woman's behind a dominant pitching performance by Rylee Crawford.

Crawford (10-11) spun a complete-game shutout, scattering six OC hits over seven innings while working around four walks. The Eagles had several opportunities but left 10 runners on base across the contest.

The Pioneers jumped on OC starter Grace Anderson early, plating three runs in the bottom of the first. A sacrifice fly scored the game's first run before Marissa Medina launched a two-run homer to left, putting the Eagles in an early 3-0 hole.

Anderson (17-8) settled in after the rough first inning, holding TWU to just one additional run over the subsequent five frames. She finished with six strikeouts and allowed seven hits in a 110-pitch outing.

Offensively, OC's best chance came in the sixth inning when they put two runners on with nobody out, but Crawford induced a foul out and a pair of fly outs to escape the threat.

Marti Yaerger continued her strong day at the plate, doubling in the seventh to give OC a late spark, but the Eagles couldn't push a run across.

Texas Woman's added an insurance run in the fourth on an RBI single by Victoria Hernandez, and that was more than enough for Crawford to seal the split.

Up Next:
The Eagles conclude their regular season with a 36-18 overall record and a 29-15 mark in Lone Star Conference play. OC now turns its attention to the LSC Championship, hosted by West Texas. The team earns the fourth seed and a first-round match up with Lubbock Christian on Thursday, May 1st, with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
