Paulsen's Seventh-Inning Homer Lifts No. 20 OC to Sixth Straight Win

EDMOND, Okla. - Trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh in the last game of the day, Kate Paulsen tied the game on one swing with a two-run home run, sending the game to extra innings, which the Eagles eventually walked off as No. 20 Oklahoma Christian defeated St. Mary's in both games Wednesday afternoon, 5-3 and 10-9.

The maroon-and-gray have now won six games in a row and four one-run victories in their last five contests. In that five-game stretch, OC has either been tied or trailing after five and a half innings in four of those matchups. In the one game where they were not trailing late, the Eagles trailed 3-1 after two and a half frames.

Kiley Brewster saw four hits across the two games, followed by Paulsen with three hits. In the extra-inning affair, Ki. Brewster went 3-for-5 at the plate, including the walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.

Jill Dickson (17-8) recorded the win in the circle in both afternoon contests. After logging the complete-game victory in the first seven-inning outing, Dickson re-entered the circle in game two and pitched the final one and two-thirds inning for her 17th victory of the season.

No. 20 Oklahoma Christian (33-15, 26-12 LSC) will return to Tom Heath Field for its two final games of the 2025 regular season when OC seeks revenge against St. Edward's Friday, Apr. 18 at 12 and 2 p.m.

Game One: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 5, St. Mary's 3
St. Mary's started the game with a walk before plating two runs prior to OC having an opportunity to come to bat. Following a single run in the bottom of the first to cut the Rattlers' lead in half, Dickson settled in, allowing just three more hits the rest of the way.

St. Mary's extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third for its last run of the contest. The Eagles immediately took the lead in the bottom of the third with a three-hit, three-run frame. After Victoria sacrifice fly, Ki. Brewster and Paulsen registered back-to-back two-out RBI-hits to give OC its first lead of the game.

An insurance run was added off the bat of Marti Yaerger to score Kallie Rupp in the fourth as Dickson proceeded to allow just three more StMU base runners from the time OC took its first lead of the game, leaving the lead untouched for the 5-3 victory.

Game Two: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 10, St. Mary's 9 (8 inn.)
In the highest combined scoring game of the season for Oklahoma Christian, St. Mary's started off game two as it did game one with a lead-off walk. Though this time StMU scored just one run in its first team at-bat, OC took over the lead much earlier with a four-spot in the home-half of the first to take a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles built that lead to 6-1 before the Rattlers broke through in the top of the fifth. St. Mary's hit two mutii-run home runs in the span of three batters to tie the game at 6-6. The game was tied for all of five OC batters before Kadence Brewster used a two-out RBI-single to retake the lead for the home team, 7-6.

After Ka. Brewster spent the duration of the sixth inning in the circle in relief for Grace Anderson, early in the seventh a pinch-hit double scored two for StMU, giving the Rattlers their first lead since the first half-inning. Dickson was then brought to the circle as OC saw a two-run deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh.

After a lead-off single from Ki. Brewster, Paulsen came through with her biggest hit of the game with her fourth home run of the season, just getting over the left-field wall to tie the game yet again at 9-9. In extras, Dickson issued a three-up, three-down before a two-out double from Maci George gave way for Ki. Brewster's walk-off.
