No. 19 Softball Wins a Pair of Senior Day Thrillers

EDMOND, Okla. - No. 19 Oklahoma Christian either trailed or was tied with Texas A&M-Kingsville after six and a half innings of game one and five and a half innings of game two, but in both instances claimed 5-4 victories Sunday afternoon.

The pair of wins brings OC's record to 31-15, marking the eighth straight year (excluding the 2020 Covid-19 shortened year) the Eagles have reached 30 wins in the regular season.

Grace Anderson, Kate Paulsen and Karsyn Iltis were honored on what was OC's Senior Day. Anderson claimed the game-one win - her 16th of the season - while Paulsen went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBI and Iltis went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the day's opener.

Kadence Brewster (4-for-6) and Maci George (4-for-7) each claimed two hits in the twin bill, with Brewster using a double and a triple to accompany the busy day, while George claimed two stolen bases in the effort.

No. 19 Oklahoma Christian (31-15, 24-12 LSC) will play its final four home games of the 2025 season Wednesday, Apr. 16 and Friday, Apr. 18 when St. Mary's and St. Edward's come to Tom Heath Field.

Game One: No. 19 Oklahoma Christian 5, Texas A&M-Kingsville 4
Iltis opened Senior Day with a two-out, two-RBI double to put OC on the board first, 2-0. That brief display of offense was overshadowed by the pitcher's duel that ensued until the seventh inning.

After a Kingsville two-out RBI-single cut OC's lead to one, Oklahoma Christian was kept at two runs when TAMUK saw its most damage come in its final at-bat. After loading the bases, another the Javelinas' second clutch two-out hit of the game plated three runs for a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

With TAMUK looking like it would spoil Anderson's Senior Day start, Oklahoma Christian coolly strung together four hits and walk with its first five batters, tying the ball game and loading the bases with all three outs still to play with. A passed ball from the Javelina catcher brought in Kiley Brewster from third for the walk-off, 5-4.

Game Two: No. 19 Oklahoma Christian 5, Texas A&M-Kingsville 4
For the second time of the day, OC started the game with an early 2-0 lead. The scoring from both sides came a bit quicker in game two, as Kingsville cut that lead in half in the top of the second only to have the Eagles build it back to 4-1 with a two-run third thanks to a Paulsen two-RBI single.

That three-run advantage remained intact until Kingsville recorded its first home run of the day with a three-run shot in the sixth to tie it up at four. Just like in game one, however, OC put together a three-hit half-inning to plate the eventual go-ahead run on a Sydney Seat RBI-single.

Jill Dickson worked her third three-up, three-down inning in the Javelinas' final at-bat as the maroon-and-gray took the final game of the afternoon by the same score, 5-4.
