No. 20 OC Holds Dustdevils Scoreless in Doubleheader Sweep

LAREDO, Texas - No. 20 Oklahoma Christian forced Texas A&M International to strand a total of 17 runners in Sunday's doubleheader as the Eagles shutout TAMIU in both games, 3-0 and 1-0.

Grace Anderson (13-5) recorded her second complete-game shutout of the weekend in Sunday's latter game, allowing seven hits while leaving nine Dustdevils on the base paths before working three-up, three-down in the seventh inning for the win.

Marti Yaerger was the lone Eagle to claim a hit in both contests, including the game-winning RBI-double in the second game. Kallie Rupp recorded her second three-hit game of the weekend, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.

No. 20 Oklahoma Christian (25-13, 18-10 LSC) will return home for a two-game stand against in-state conference foe Cameron Friday, Apr. 4 at 4 p.m.

Game One: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 3, Texas A&M International 0
The theme of OC bending but not breaking started early in the doubleheader as Texas A&M International loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with still two outs to work with. With three players on, starting pitcher Jill Dickson struck out a Dustdevil before issuing a fly-out to left field to keep the score at 0-0.

The score remained untouched until Dickson and Rupp tallied back-to-back RBI in the top of the fourth for the 2-0 lead. Dickson kept the Dustdevils scoreless before Sydney Seat pinch-hit as she scored an RBI-sacrifice fly for the 3-0 advantage.

With Texas A&M International still having three innings left to overcome the three-run deficit, the tying run was brought to the plate in the seventh with one out. Similar to the first inning, the next two Dustdevils were retired to claim the victory for the visitors.

Game Two: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 1, Texas A&M International 0
Anderson worked with at least one Dustdevil on base in every inning but the seventh. Meanwhile, Oklahoma Christian managed just one hit through the first five innings. In the top of the sixth, Dickson led off the frame with lead-off single for the maroon-and-gray's first base-runner of the game.

With the next two Eagles being retired, Marti Yaerger, who was 0-for-2 at the point, came to the plate facing two outs. Yaerger recorded her second double of the weekend to score pinch-runner Presley Main for the 1-0 lead.

Two more TAMIU batters got on base in the sixth before play moved to the seventh with the OC 1-0 lead still intact. With International then down to its last three outs in the seventh, for the first time, Oklahoma Christian, on the back of Anderson's right arm, retired the side to clinch the two-game sweep, 1-0.
