Dickson's Three-Run Homer, Anderson's Shutout Yields Pair of Wins

EDMOND, Okla. - Both Jill Dickson and Grace Anderson tallied nine strikeouts in their respective outings as No. 20 Oklahoma Christian defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville in Friday night's doubleheader, 6-1 and 3-0.

In addition to Dickson's nine strikeouts to get the win in game one, the Edmond, Okla. (Edmond Memorial HS) native's bat proved potent with a three-run home run as part of her 2-for-4 opener.

With the momentum staying in the circle for the latter game, Anderson pitched a six-hit shutout, recording the aforementioned nine strikeouts compared to just three walks. Of TAMUK's six hits off Anderson, five of them came in the first three innings.

At the plate in game two, eight of the nine in OC's lineup claimed a hit, including a pair of hits from Marti Yaerger for her team-leading 12th multi-hit game this season while also working a walk to reach base safely three times.

No. 20 Oklahoma Christian will take one day off before continuing south to meet Texas A&M International Sunday, Mar. 30 for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

Game One: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 6, Texas A&M-Kingsville 1
Jill Dickson allowed the Javelinas their first hit in the first inning, and did not allow another hit until the sixth frame. During that stretch, No. 20 OC got on the board off a Kallie Rupp RBI-single in the second for the 1-0 lead.

Kingsville threatened the one-run lead in the third, loading the bases on just one out thanks to a walk, hit-by-pitch and a fielding error, but Dickson maintained the Oklahoma Christian lead with a pop-up and a strike out. The Eagles responded to that immediately with single runs in the fourth and fifth for the 3-0 lead.

Texas A&M-Kingsville cut into OC's lead by one run in the sixth before the maroon-and-gray doubled their run total to that point in the final visitor-half inning. With two outs on the board, pinch-hitter Sydney Seat and Rupp hit back-to-back singles, marking Rupp's first three-hit game of the season, before Dickson completed the two-out rally with a three-run shot to center field for the 6-1 lead.

Kadence Brewster replaced Dickson in the circle for the final three outs. After a lead-off strikeout, TAMUK landed two base runners by way of walk and hit-by-pitch. Brewster proceeded to get the next two Javelinas out to clinch the game-one win for Oklahoma Christian.

Game Two: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 3, Texas A&M-Kingsville 0
After being held to just one run in the first game, the Javelinas looked to jump on the Eagles early, loading the bases in the first inning before having runners on the corners in the second. In both instances, Anderson left the field of play unscathed as play remained scoreless.

Similar to Dickson in game one, Anderson used her bat to plate OC's first run of game two off a TAMUK error in the top of the third. In the home-half of the frame, Kingsville saw its last base runner until the sixth frame, while the Javelinas were yet again held scoreless.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's pitcher acted in turn as a pitcher's duel commenced over the next three innings. The Eagles were able to break free in the top of the seventh, stringing together four straight hits to add two insurance runs in the visitor's final at-bat.

Though TAMUK brought the tying run to the plate, with both base runners in scoring position, a line-out to first base clinched the shutout and the twin-bill sweep for the Eagles, 3-0.
