Baseball Dominates Midweek Contest with Seven Home Runs

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian saw its most home runs in a single game since 2021 as the Eagles defeated in-state foe Southern Nazarene in seven innings, 20-9.

Of OC's seven home runs, five of them came from true freshman Grant Voss (2) and Trey Migl (3). Migl became the first Eagle to hit three home runs in one game since Michael DiFiore on Apr. 2, 2021.

Voss continued his electric burst onto the Oklahoma Christian scene, recording his sixth consecutive game with a hit and seeing 10 hits during that stretch. Tuesday also marked the true freshman's first home runs of his collegiate career. In his last six games, Voss is hitting .455.

Tony Hernandez (1-0) earned his first first decision of the season in relief, serving as the last pitcher to take the mound prior to OC taking the lead for good. In his lone inning of work Hernandez was responsible for only one hit while striking out a Crimson Storm batter.

How it happened
  • Starting pitcher Charlie McBride earned a no-decision with two innings of scoreless work, followed by reliever Brooks Snyder with a scoreless single inning as OC took advantage to the tune of a 5-0 lead after two innings.
  • Both teams saw three-up, three-down third innings before SNU made a game out of the midweek contest with a five-run fourth. Oklahoma Christian saw the Crimson Storm's five runs and raised them 11 runs in the home-half of the frame.
  • Six of OC's seven home came in the fourth inning alone as Voss and Migl each hit two in the span of the three outs. The Eagles came within two batters of hitting through the lineup twice with nine hits, four walks and an SNU fielding error contained in the fourth inning.
  • Now sporting a comfortable 16-5 lead, Southern Nazarene did get four runs back in the fifth, but those there were the final runs allowed as OC entered run-rule territory with its own four-spot in the sixth to move ahead, 20-9.
  • Six of the Crimson Storm's final seven batters were retired as the maroon-and-gray's pitching capped off an incredible offensive showing from the Eagles.
