AUSTIN, Texas - Game one of the four-game series between Oklahoma Christian and No. 14 St. Edward's Friday afternoon went to the Hilltoppers, 12-2.
Reed Thomas recorded his second home run as an Eagle to put up OC's two runs in the series opener. True freshman
Grant Voss, after his 3-for-3 day at the plate last weekend, went 1-for-1 at the dish as a pinch-hitter.
Michael Adair and
Trey Migl reached base twice safely with hits and a walk/hit by pitch.
Ira Clifton earned a no-decision in the starting role, working two scoreless and hitless innings while striking out an SEU batters and administering two walks.
How it happened
- Clifton kept the score tied through the first two innings, allowing just two base runners during his outing. Migl opened the game with a lead-off double to give OC a base runner, but neither pitcher allowed a run through the first 12 outs of the gameplay.
- In the bottom of the third, after relief pitcher Tim Malone worked two outs, SEU strung together three straight two-out hits while a trio of walks allowed the Hiltoppers to open a 5-0 lead.
- Reed Thomas cut into a then-8-0 deficit in the top of the sixth with a two-run shot following a lead-off walk from Hunter Jones. St. Edward's was able to end the game early, however, with a four-run bottom of the sixth, coming away with the 12-2 victory.Â
