SILVER CITY, N.M. - No. 18 Oklahoma Christian rattled off 29 hits between both games of Friday's doubleheaders as the Eagles posted 10-4 and 7-1 wins against Western New Mexico.
Reigning LSC Freshman of the Week
Marti Yaerger continued her stellar freshman season, logging her sixth and seventh consecutive game with a hit after going 5-for-8 (.625) at the plate.
Kadence Brewster joined Yaerger with the hits as she also saw a 5-for-8 day at the dish.
Jill Dickson (6-3) and
Grace Anderson (6-2) both claimed wins in the circle as Dickson logged six strikeouts while Anderson issued seven. In game two, Anderson allowed just one run on five hits and one walk in six innings of work.
No. 18 Oklahoma Christian (12-6, 5-5 LSC) will now head east while remaining in the Land of Enchantment State when it faces Eastern New Mexico in a doubleheader Sundat, Mar. 2 beginning at 1 p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT.
Game One: No. 18 Oklahoma Christian 10, Western New Mexico 4
Victoria Brazil got her four-RBI, three-hit performance started quickly with a two-RBI single to deep left field to score Yaerger, who led off the game with a double down the right-field line, and
Maci George for the early 2-0 lead.
After the Mustangs cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second, both teams recorded three-run third innings to keep the one-run OC lead. Dickson proceeded to hold WNMU scoreless the rest of the way as the Eagles' offense closed the game with three hits in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to plate five more runs.
Ka. Brewster brought in the final run for Oklahoma Christian in the top of the seventh before
Payten Schibbelhute recorded the final two outs to claim the game-one victory, 10-4.Â
Game Two: No. 18 Oklahoma Christian 7, Western New Mexico 1
As she did in the first game, Yaerger led off the the lineup with a double to set up George for an RBI-single to put OC on the board two batters into game-two action. Two batters later, Brazil used an RBI-ground-out for the 2-0 lead.
Ka. Brewster sent her season's first home run on a solo shot for the 3-0 lead before Western New Mexico responded with its only run of the game in the bottom of the second. The Mustangs were allowed just six more hits over the final five scorelss innings administered by Anderson.
Presley Main broke the 3-1 score with her first home run of the young season in the top of the fourth before OC broke it open with a five-hit, two run fifth to bring the score to 6-1. After Anderson did her damage in the circle, the senior came to the plate to bring home the maroon-and-gray's final run with an RBI-double in the sixth.
