Eagles Use Complete Performance in 76-67 Victory Over TAMUK

EDMOND, Okla. - Texas A&M-Kingsville led for one minute and 31 seconds of Saturday night's game before Oklahoma Christian dominated the rest of the way, defeating the Javelinas, 76-67.

Keyondre Young came into the night having only scored 10 or more twice this calendar year. Saturday, Young broke through with his most points since Dec. 19, pouring in a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds.

Miles Gibson echoed much of Young's game with his own 19-point, 9-rebound performance. Nickolas Traylor matched his season high with 16 points while Javon Grant did a little bit of everything in the winning effort, finishing with eight points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.

As a team, OC committed just 10 turnovers - tied for its fewest turnovers this season. While only forcing 11 turnovers, the Eagles turned those into 19 points while TAMUK managed just 14 points-off-turnovers.

Oklahoma Christian's defense was on full display through the early going, not allowing Kingsville to make a field-goal until the 12:41 mark of the first half. At that point, the maroon-and-gold had already established a 12-point lead, 17-5.

Following a timeout from the visitors before things really go out of hand, the Javelinas proceeded to knock down some threes, mounting an 11-4 run to close the gap to five, 21-16. However, back-to-back threes from Young and Gibson reestablished an 11-point advantage, 27-16.

The game did not come within single digits again until 23 seconds remaining in the game. Oklahoma Christian answered every Kingsville run with timely shots and suffocating defense. 67 points is the fewest points OC has allowed in a win since Dec. 14.

Oklahoma Christian (7-14, 4-12 LSC) will return to the Payne Athletic Center when it hosts Texas A&M International Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
