Baseball Falls Late on Road to Texas A&M International, 13-12

LAREDO, Texas - Oklahoma Christian held a 12-7 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning Friday evening before Texas A&M International used six runs over the final two frames to take the series opener, 13-12.

The Eagles out-hit the Dustdevils, 13-9, but were inflicted with six errors compared to just three for TAMIU. The maroon-and-gray's offense did manage four extra-base hits compared to three for International.

Two of those extra-base hits came from Reed Thomas, recording a home run and a double for six RBI and two runs scored. Hank Heiselbetz reached base five times with a single base-knock and four walks - the most walks in a single game by an OC player since Coleton Hinkle in 2020.

Trey Migl (2-for-4), Hunter Jones (2-for-3) and Elijah Laus (2-for-5) each claimed multiple hits. Jones joined Heiselbetz by getting on base five times with his two hits and three walks, adding two RBI and two runs scored.

How it happened
  • Oklahoma Christian got the scoring started in the third inning with a Thomas three-RBI double following two walks and a base-knock. Sloan Laird added a fourth run in the frame with a sacrifice fly to score Thomas.
  • Both teams added two runs to maintain the four-run OC lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. International then closed the lead to one, 6-5, with a three-run fourth.
  • Following a scoreless fifth, the Eagles saw their second-highest scoring inning of the game with a three-run sixth with an RBI-ground out from Migl and two runs off of Thomas' first home run of the season to make it 9-5.
  • The Eagles' largest lead of the game came off a Jones walk and Thomas sacrifice fly for the 11-5 advantage in the . From there, TAMIU scored eight of the final nine runs, winning on a walk-off balk.
