Hilltoppers Pull Away Late Despite Gibson Season High

AUSTIN, Texas - Oklahoma Christian trailed St. Edward's by two points with 10:35 remaining in regulation, but an 18-2 Hilltopper run over the next five minutes of game time led to an eventual 89-76 SEU victory Saturday afternoon.

Oklahoma Christian trailed by three at halftime before SEU won the second half, 49-39, behind 10 second-half three-pointers at a 55.56 percent clip.

Gibson led the scoring for OC with season-high 23 points, hitting seven of his 11 field-goals, including 3-of-5 triples, and 6-of-8 at the free-throw line. Marco Foster recorded his 14th game this season with at least three made three-pointers as he posted 19 points.

The first half featured seven lead changes as neither team led by more eight points through the opening 20 minutes. St. Edward's led by eight points with 180 seconds remaining before a 7-0 spurt from OC, five of which came courtesy of Gibson, kept the margin at three at intermission.

The lead changed hands two more times in the first three minutes of second-half action before the Eagles remained within six points until the under-12 media. Following the pause in action, SEU used the game's biggest run to open an 18-point lead.

Oklahoma Christian whittled an eventual 20-point deficit down to 13, but the lead was too big to overcome as OC fell in Austin Saturday afternoon, 89-76.

The Eagles (7-17, 4-15 LSC) will play its final two home games of the 2024-25 season this Thursday and Saturday, with that last day featuring Senior Day festivities.
