Baseball Falls in Doubleheader Against Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma Christian dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Lubbock Christian, 9-0 and 16-5.

Justin Spencer, Sload Laird and Trey Migl each claimed two hits in the latter game while Cason Gregory was the lone Eagle to see a hit in the first contest. Gregory is tied now for the team-lead along with Michael Adair with seven hits.

Reigning Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week and National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Region Pitcher of the Week Tristan Copeland saw his first start on the mound of the season, going the first four innings without allowing a run and just one hit while striking out eight batters.

At that time, Copeland's season numbers were 26 strikeouts and two hits in 13.1 scoreless innings. Lubbock managed seven runs, however, in the fifth inning to put a dent in the reigning Region Pitcher of the Week's historic start.

Oklahoma Christian (1-6, 1-6 LSC) will return to Hays Field Sunday, Feb. 16 for the final game of the series against the Chaparrals at 1 p.m.

GAME ONE: Lubbock Christian 9, Oklahoma Christian 0
  • Copeland started game two of the weekend series with four innings of scoreless work, allowing just one hit while striking out eight batters.
  • Copeland's electric start took a turn in the fifth inning. Lubbock scored all seven of its fifth-inning runs with two outs, stringing together five consecutive hits against Copeland and reliever Ira Clifton.
  •  The Chaparrals added two insurance runs in the sixth as OC's offense managed just one hit all game to leave LCU's lead unscathed.
GAME TWO: Lubbock Christian 16, Oklahoma Christian 5
  • Lubbock got on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the first before Oklahoma Christian took a brief lead in the top of the second with a two-RBI single from Migl to score Spencer and Reed Thomas.
  • The Chaparrals added their own two runs in the home-half of the second to re-take the lead before plating five runs in the third. LCU tallied eight more runs over the final three innings compared to OC's three for the final tally.
