SAN ANGELO, Texas - No. 20 Oklahoma Christian fell to No. 7 Angelo State on the road by a combined five runs, 4-0 and 3-2, while the Eagles and the Rambelles each recorded eight hits across the day's two games.
True freshman
Marti Yaerger was the only Eagle to log hits in both contests Friday, including going 2-for-2 while also working a walk in the first game.
Grace Anderson recorded two hits in the second matchup between the NFCA Top-20 teams.
Oklahoma Christian (7-3, 0-2 LSC) will have a day off before taking on (RV) Lubbock Christian in a twin bill Sunday, Feb. 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE: No. 7 Angelo State 4, No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 0
Oklahoma Christian was inflicted with two double-plays by ASU in the first and second inning to end both threats. Meanwhile, the Rambelles benefited from two Eagle errors in the bottom of the first to plate their first two runs, both of which were unearned.
Angelo State doubled its score in the third with a two-out double to make it 4-0 before managing just one more hit the rest of the game. With starting pitcher Anderson holding ASU at bay the remainder of the game, OC's biggest threat in the fifth with two on and one out ended with a strikeout and a fly-out as the Rambelles took game one, 4-0.Â
GAME TWO: No. 7 Angelo State 3, No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 2
Both pitchers worked two and a half scoreless innings before Angelo opened the scoring a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles cut into the Rambelles lead with a three-hit top of the fifth before a
Kadence Brewster triple turned into OC's first run one batter later.
Oklahoma Christian's next half-inning yielded another run as the maroon-and-gold came within one run of ASU. The Eagles looked to keep up the scoring momentum in the top of the seventh with an Anderson lead-off single. As it did in the first game, however, a Rambelle double play killed all offensive momentum for OC as Angelo closed the day with the 3-2 game-two win.
