TYLER, Texas - A 50-point second half for the Eagles was for not following a 15-point first half as Oklahoma Christian dropped Saturday afternoon's contest against UT Tyler, 76-65.
Nickolas Traylor secured a season-high 16 points on 50 percent (6-of-12) shooting while
Marco Foster led all Eagle scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Saturday marked the seventh time in the last eight games Foster has made at least three three-pointers.
The Eagles' first half started with
Javon Grant and
Jason Clark making back-to-back field-goals in the game's first 61 seconds. Only two more successful field-goals came OC's way over the remaining 18 minutes and 59 seconds of the opening frame.
Trailing 34-15 at the break, UT Tyler grew its lead to 33 before Oklahoma Christian began to slowly cut away at the deficit. The Eagles even cut the Patriots' lead down to nine with a Foster layup at the 2:53 mark, and again to four with just under two minutes remaining, but UTT used free-throw shooting to withstand a near-historic comeback.
Oklahoma Christian (6-14, 3-12 LSC) will return to the Payne Athletic Center for two games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m., respectively.
