NAMPA, Idaho -
Miles Gibson poured in a career-high 27 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting (71.4 percent) as Oklahoma Christian defeated Western Oregon on the first day of the NNU Thanksgiving Classic, 66-55.
Friday marked OC's third double-digit point victory in four games and its first such victory over an NCAA Division II opponent since the 2023-24 campaign.
Along with his career-high points, Gibson also snagged a collegiate-best four steals while knocking down six of his seven free-throws. As a team, the maroon-and-gray hit 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) free-throws while Western Oregon made just four of its five attempts.
Elijah Bailey followed Gibson with 16 points as the Texas A&M International transfer has scored in double figures in all four games as an Eagle. Gibson and Bailey combined for 43 of Oklahoma Christian's 66 points in the winning effort.
The Eagles opened the first 20 minutes of game action putting up 11 more shots than the Wolves, 14-of-33 (42.4 percent) to 9-of-22 (40.91 percent), while also using a 12-0 Eagle run right out of the gate, as the shot discrepancy and the quick start had Oklahoma Christian take the halftime lead, 35-23.
With just over five and a half minutes remaining in regulation, Western Oregon closed the gap to five before free-throw shooting kept the Eagles free of the Wolves. Oklahoma Christian closed the game going 9-of-11 from the charity stripe to keep a lead it had held all game intact, 66-55.
The maroon-and-gray (4-0, 0-0 LSC) will return to Johnson Sports Center for day two of the NNU Thanksgiving Classic when OC takes on tournament-host Northwest Nazarene Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. MT / 8 p.m. CT.
